According to Baseball-Reference.com, the 2012 Red Sox had two pitchers with an ERA below 4: Scott Atchison (1.58) and Franklin Morales (3.77). The best starter was Clay Buchholz (11-8, 4.56 ERA). Closer Alfredo Aceves was at 5.36.
That’s pretty pathetic. While I do think Bobby Valentine had to go, they might want to take a look at the pitching coaches, too…and spend some of the Beckett/Gonzalez/Crawford money on some decent arms.
