Well, it looks like my brand on humor does not translate well into other languages. Besides the French BMX site that thought my flatland game "review" was real, there's now a Russian site that also thinks it's a real game. (I think Google and AltaVista need to work on building a sarcasm detector into their translation software...)

Apparently, some people didn't detect the sarcasm in my "BMX Freestyle Pro Flatland video game "review". A French riding site seems to be reporting it as actual news...

As I expected, the winners of the 59th Annual Pictures of the Year International Competition have produced some quite amazing photos. Especially moving are the different series from September 11. (via kottke)
"Young fella"? Man, I'd love to be able to play tennis when I'm 90!

The new version of Flash is available, and it looks fantastic. Some of the best features:
UI components
distribute object to individual layers
ability to use standard browser navigation buttons
shared libraries
The pre-built UI components (such as scrollbars and forms) are very cool, but also will probably be the most likely feature to be abused -- I see a lot of new overly Flash-happy sites in the near future.

You Mac users out there should check out FinderPop. It's a great little utility that adds a lot of functionality to contextual menus opening with an application, changing file types, viewing folder and Stuffit archive contents, and easy access to windows open in the Finder.

By the way, I still haven't gotten around to fix the search engine on this site yet (though I know what the problem is). Instead, I've been busy trying to finish the eWire redesign ... plus I'm sure nobody is missing the search function anyway.
I haven't been shooting enough photos lately (never mind actually put them on this site!); I really have to force myself to get out there. photographica.org sometimes inspires me to shoot. Too often I run across someone's (in my opinion) lame digital snapshots, but every once in a while I come across something like this...
