For those who think that I'm too big a Simpsons geek, at least I didn't compile The Beatles references and appearances on the Simpsons (though I do appreciate it...).
Don't you hate hearing too much about how good a movie is, only to have it not live up to the hype? Well, we saw Memento this weekend, and it was a great movie. If you haven't heard about it yet, there's a summary here.
I was surprised how well the method of telling the story in reverse actually worked -- just like the main character, you didn't know what just happened to him. And to carry the backwards thing further, the official website is otnemem.com.

Well, I'm finally getting around to updating the Photos section: I added photos from our trip to Bar Harbor, Maine last fall and some winter shots from earlier this year...

I already hate the Tasmanian Devil, and Taz fans tend to irritate me, too. I passed a pickup truck today that was plastered with Taz stickers, plus it had the Taz air freshener and a front license plate airbrushed with his name and Taz. It's probably a pretty safe bet that he had a Taz tattoo somewhere on him as well.

Jets To Brazil played a fantastic show at the Somerville (MA) Theater last night. In addition to stuff from their two CDs, JTB did three new songs as well.

For those of you fans of Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter, The Onion's AV Club recenly had interviews with both of them.

Will nobody learn the lesson of William Shatner? Deborah Norville has started a singing career of sorts. I was lucky (?) enough to have caught the video she made (for a song that uses pitch benders WAY too much). I'm hoping it ends up on the web soon for all to "enjoy"...

William Shatner will host an American version of "The Iron Chef"
I don't see how this could possibly top the Japanese version.

Bad Religion has returned to Epitaph Records, complete with Brett Gurewitz re-joining to the band. Wonder if that means Brian Baker is out of a job now...

Riding is getting out of hand -- here's an MPEG of Adam Strieby doing a backflip tailwhip (1 MB). Unfortunately it's not a very good video (and Mat Hoffman attempted this many years ago) but it's still a damn crazy trick.

A bad sign for TMBG?
While at a sandwich shop, I heard They Might Be Giants' song "Boss of Me" -- the theme from the TV show Malcolm in the Middle -- playing on the radio. If that song gets popular, They might end up being banished to the same plane of hell as The Rembrandts...

"Do you want to go to Mars with a dead guy and a sandwich? Yes or no?"
-- Harry Caray (not really, though)

As you can see, I've (finally) updated this site's design. It was about time -- it's been about a year since I registered kieranchapman.net to put my resume up while job hunting. Some things aren't quite working yet (like the archives) and I have yet to add a couple other things, but it's good enough for now. I'm going to get something to eat...

Pepsi is coming out with a new soda targeted towards inner city kids and minorities: Mountain Dew's cousin, Code Red. The CEO of Pepsi describes the kind of teenager who pops into his mind when he thinks about Mountain Dew Code Red as "A kid with his hair on end, his eyes bugging out... He's a little bit on edge."
And if you want more marketing bullshit, how's this:
"That's the whole mission that we have, trying to extend the excitement into the urban centers," said Charlee Taylor-Hines, Pepsi's director of urban and ethnic marketing. "With a name like Code Red that's all about action, urgency and excitement, we think we have a home run in the making here."

Bluetorch has some short video coverage of the "BMX Yorktown Jam" (the York Jam). It's mostly far-away footage of Brian Huffman, Terry Adams, and the Japanese riders.

Lowest Common Denominator Continues To Plummet
..."Quite simply, the collective intelligence level is dropping so rapidly that it's becoming increasingly difficult for producers to insult the intelligence of the American public," said News Corp president and COO Peter Chernin. "Without a way to set a floor for the lowest common denominator, even the stupidest material we can develop is not stupid enough for audiences to enjoy."

This from the Providence Journal:
"Bicycle stuntman Chris Poulous and Providence's dancing cop Tony Lepore will be among the entertainers featured at the Warren Preservation Society's seventh annual Warren on Wheels Festival."
An ex-world champion flatlander and a dancing cop ... odd combo.
